Paramount tops $1B in sales

Filed under: Box Office — Ben @ 4:33 pm

Congratulations are in order to the people over at Paramount Pictures for topping $1,000,000,000 in ticket sales sometime on Monday. Sometime over the weekend Paramount will also surpass the $1.046 billion mark which will break there record of 1998 for ticket sales, and they still got quite some time left in the year.

1998 was a record setting year partially because of Titantic, which managed to haul in a fucking huge amount. BoxOfficeMojo puts the figure at $600,788,188 which is just over half. Man, a lot of people must have been dying to see Leo or Kate, cause that is a shit load of cash to haul in.

The films which helped get Paramount across that $1 billion mark are: Blades of Glory, Freedom Writers, Zodiac, Reno 911!: Miami, Norbit, Disturbia, Next, Shrek the Third, A Mighty Heart and Transformers.

A breakdown of the movies ticket sales courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo are: Blades of Glory – $118,175,865, Freedom Writers – $36,605,602, Zodiac – $33,080,083, Reno 911!: Miami – $20,342,161, Norbit – $95,360,247, Disturbia – $79,341,927, Next – $18,049,868, Shrek the Third – $316,959,197, A Mighty Heart – $8,477,841 and Transformers – $165,333,052.

It seems that Blades of Glory, Shrek the Third and Transformers were there biggest earners pulling in roughly the equivalent of what Titantic pulled in all together in 1998. That is amazing, 3 blockbuster films equal Titantic. Enjoy those figures

A few Indiana Jones clips

Filed under: Movie Clips — Ben @ 3:52 pm

The boys from Indiana Jones have released a few clips of the set. The first one is just a small crappy clip and the second looks to be a small clip of a scene they are shooting with Indie. My golly gosh does Harrison Ford look old, grey hairs unite! Man I am having so much fun with this new flash player, I am seriously contemplating updating all my previous trailers with the new version

10,000 BC Trailer

Filed under: Movie Trailers — Ben @ 10:59 am

10,000 BC has just released a new trailer. I don’t think it is too shabby, look quite cool actually. I am partial to quite a bit of action myself, so this looks like it might fulfill my void. Only time will tell. In true ShizzlePie fashion here is the plot of the movie, the release date is set for the 7th of March, 2008.

As a member of a primitive tribe during the dawn of man, 21-year-old mammoth hunter D’Leh (Steven Strait) travels through unknown lands on a quest to rescue his people from extinction. D’Leh, leading an army, uncovers a lost civilization in pursuit of a warlord who kidnapped his love, Evolet (Camilla Belle). D’Leh and his army encounters saber-toothed cats and other prehistoric predators in the journey to save his tribe.

Simpsons have arrived home!

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 9:02 pm

Well remember that story we posted a few days ago about the location of Springfield not being known? Well the competition has been completed and a new home for the famous yellow family has been found, the new place is Springfield, Vermont.

Well that is good that it has finally been announced, I bet the people in the small Vermont town are happy about that. They were a late entry and beat out all the other competitors with 14% of all votes, with there closest competition having 13%, close call.

The town has roughly 9,300 people and managed to rally the townspeople through local media and mass email (need I say fucking spammers!). They will get the yellow carpet and the voices and everything at there humble little town. Here is some more information on the winning entry

The winning entry took two days to film with help from the Vermont Film Commission. It begins much like the opening sequence of the TV show, with the familiar theme song playing as Vermont’s Homer chases a giant doughnut (actually an inner tube designed by a local graphic artist) through the town, causing mayhem wherever he goes. The townspeople chase after him until they are beckoned into the movie theater, where they sit down for the premiere of The Simpsons Movie.

Well sounds all fine and dandy. I did find a good little article on the location of the yellow people, if you have the time, I suggest you head on over and have a read of it, the article is located here

007 Book to hit stores 2008

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 8:41 pm

Well a new Bond book is about to hit the stores. The author is a British man who goes by the name Sebastian Faulks. The book was authorized by the estate of Ian Fleming and it going to most likely hit the stores in 2008, which does mark 100 years since the birth of Fleming.

The novel which goes by the name Devil May Care. It is set during the Cold War and Faulks tries his hardest to mesh a lot of his writing with the style of Fleming. The book spans 2 continents and is going to be published by Penguin UK. Faulks had this to say about the book

I tried to isolate the essential and the most enjoyable aspects of the books. Then I took that pattern and added characters and a story of my own with as much speed and as many twists as I thought the reader could bear. I developed a prose that is about 80 per cent Fleming. I didn’t go the final distance for fear of straying into pastiche, but I strictly observed his rules of chapter and sentence construction. My novel is meant to stand in the line of Fleming’s own books, where the story is everything.

At the present moment in time the film rights have not been sold, but EON is most likely to pick up the rights as they made a name for themselves in producing and getting the Bond films out there. I did enjoy Casino Royale so hopefully this one is good as well
