Decades after J.R.R. Tolkien’s death, his estate has released a new book titled Children of Hurin, a lovely plot summary from our frie
nds at Wikipedia, mostly put together from Tolkien’s manuscripts by his son and sole estate owner Christopher Tolkien.
According to reuters Hollywood studios are eager to pick up the book and develop it into a movie. I don’t doubt that it would make an awesome movie as I am a sucker for any of Tolkien’s work, read The Hobbit and all of the rings and also seen the movies. But David Brawn, leader of Harper Collins (Tolkien’s publisher), had this to say about the issue
“We all want this first and foremost to enjoy life as a book, no one’s saying never to a film (but) the film rights are reserved by the estate. We want to see what reaction it gets and then let it run its course.”
I hope the do make it a film, although it is up to Christopher Tolkien, maybe a few prompting phone calls should do the trick ![]()
