Where do the Simpsons live?

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 11:22 pm

Where do the yellow people live? Springfield yeah, but there are so many in America. The only episode I can remember where they got close to saying where Springfield is, was when Apu was going to get kicked out of American and he had to become a citizen. Homer didn’t know and Lisa was gonna show him, but she didn’t.

Gotta stop boring you with my stupid knowledge of the Simpsons, Matt Groening along with USAToday are hosting a competition to find out which Springfield in the US of A the Simpsons hail from. Is it the one in Oregon? New Jersey? Illinois? Well you can now go and help pick that special home town out.

The home town which wins the right to call the Simpsons part of there clan gets to receive the official hometown preview and most likely a shit load of people heading on down to have a look at the stupid folk who wanted to call the Simpsons theres.

The official website is located at USAToday.com. The link is here. Head on over and vote for your favourite :)

Cloverfield News

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 11:13 pm

Well the web is buzzing with information on the mystery Cloverfield movie that JJ Abrams is gonna be making. Unfortunately when I went to watch Transformers (great action scenes by the way, thoroughly impressed) there was no trailer so I am just relying on the shitty cam ones that were taped.

So with previous news items we have slowly amassed a bunch of news items, here is what we have so far. A trailer, a website a release date (18/01/08) and a director (JJ Abrams). Seems pretty simple enough, but no there is more.

This week supposedly 2 new websites for the film were released (this is unconfirmed) and one is a blogspot blog and the other is a proper site. They are here and here. The puzzles may lead us to some answers about the upcoming movie, but I am too lazy to solve them all. People are posting solutions on YouTube, so head on over there to have a look at some of them.

Hollywood Reporter is helping us out with more tidbits of information, this time it being about the cast and crew. Supposedly Matt Reeves and Drew Goddard will be working alongside JJ Abrams to bring the movie, and I’ll let HR tell you about the casting procedure :)

The casting process was just as mysterious. No scripts or even scene pages were sent out; agents who were contacted were simply asked if their client wanted to be in the movie or not. Eventually a cast, made up mostly of relative unknowns, was put together; it includes Michael Stahl-David (“The Black Donnellys”), Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel (“Supercross”) and Lizzy Kaplan (“The Class”).

Well this is getting crazier and crazier. My prediction is that it will be a Godzilla movie, not like the Japanese engineer it through radiation crap, but more like an alien Godzilla sort of thing. We will soon find out :)

Transformers News

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 12:55 pm

Well the fanfare is certainly setting in. Transformers hysteria is sweeping the planet, and we have some news to help you cope with it :) The first bit of news is how well Bay’s film is going at the box office. On the Wednesday it managed to haul in a whopping $29.1 million to take it’s total in 2 and a half days to $65.7 million.

It has set a new record for Wednesday beating out the likes of Passion of the Christ and Star Wars: Episode I. It is now in contention with War of the Worlds to become the second highest grossing 4th of July opener, and some are speculating it to take in $150 million in it’s first week.

After them it was Ratatouille with $10.2 million and then Bruce Willis’ Live Free or Die Hard which made a cool $6 million. All up Ratatouille has pulled in $72 million and Die Hard a nice $63.2 million. Anyway back to Transformers

On to the next Transformers news item, Bay is already thinking about doing a sequel. He says in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he already has ideas for a sequel. He also states that after watching 15 minutes of the 1986 Transformers movie wanted to be shot, anyway here is a quote from that article.

There’s a lot of really cool, big robot stuff that I had in my head that we didn’t do. I just want to see how this works. You might not grow as much as a director [to do a sequel]. But it’s kind of like you have your baby and you don’t want someone else to take it..” When asked whether he would make Transformers 2 his next film, Bay replied: “I don’t know if it would be ready. It just takes so long to do a script. A couple things are on the horizon, but [maybe] I’ll do my little movie that I can knock out, because we all think we’re going to have a strike.”

Well I am gonna be seeing Transformers tonight so I will see how it all goes, hopefully he leaves a gap open for a sequel (believe it or not I have stayed away from all the reviews and information on the movie) and who knows? maybe he will go back to cartoons :P

Sex and the City movie in the works

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 1:34 pm

Not a fan of this, New Line Cinemas (Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination, Monster-in-Law) are about to pick up and finance / distribute a Sex and the City feature length movie. That’s right, an hour to two of Sarah Jessica Parker parading around talking about shit, can’t wait.

The original cast will still be in it, with the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon all to come back and take there original roles. There executive producer Michael Patrick King will be directing the script he formed.

The film was nearly released 2 years back but was stopped cause Kim Cattrall wanted more control and more cash. Supposedly she wanted the same pay as the lead woman Sarah Jessica Parker, which in all honesty is an over paid stuck up bitch, but who am I to comment? Variety had the following to say

The film got close to happening about two years ago, but progress halted when Cattrall backed away. She wanted script controls and a salary close to that of Parker, who was more highly paid than the others because she was co-executive producer of the series. Whatever tensions existed are gone now, sources said. Cattrall has a deal she’s happy with, one the sources said gives her input on her scenes, a fat salary and a future series deal with HBO.

So now the fan base are happy it is going ahead and the actors and actresses are happy, we can finally move on, it can be released, go straight to DVD and then fall to the back of the movie store as a lesson learned. No harm done (at least I hope)

Cruise banned again

Filed under: Movie News — Ben @ 8:33 pm

A little while back Tom Cruise and the crew who were filming Valkyrie were banned from entering German government buildings to film certain scenes in the movie. Apparently Cruise’s association with the Church of Scientology was definitely a major fact in the final decision.

The Finance Ministry did in fact deny access to a Defense Ministry building where a German officer by the name of (this is a mouthful) Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg was executed because of his brash attempt to take Adolf Hitler’s life. Tom Cruise plays the guy who’s name I cannot say, we’ll refer to him as Claus Stuffenberg

The local community of the town are in support of Valkyrie and the director Bryan Singer. The site is called the Bendlerblock building and is a memorial to Claus Stuffenberg and all the people who were conspiring against the once all powerful dictator.

The cast and crew tried to get access to a police station to film as well, but after supposed intense review were also rejected from that as well. Sounds like the German government are still getting over some of the scenes in Eyes Wide Shut to me.

Something I found funny in this story was when the director of The Lives of Others said that Cruise’s power in the media would make an often overshadowed story of heroism known to the whole world. And another quote I found quite amusing, is that he also said that Cruise playing Stuffenberg (and I quote), “would do more to promote Germany’s image than 10 World Cup soccer championships could ever do.”
